Westbend Winery & Brewery - The Sequel
Help us celebrate North Carolina's Wine Month by sharing this blog with your friends. We'll be featuring a vineyard every day this month, and all of them are members of the North Carolina Fine Wines Society. Please like our Page on Facebook.
If you haven't been to the new Westbend Winery & Brewery yet, you're missing out.
Westbend has strong roots in their history. The vineyard was the first in the area to grow Vinifera grapes, dating back to 1972. Like many, the vineyard was one of our favorite places to go to for North Carolina wines before it closed its doors in 2014. It was a great run for all involved and a great accomplishment.
But what has happened since their reopening in December of 2016 has been like a great movie sequel. Dictionary.com describes sequel as "1. a literary work, movie, etc., that is complete in itself but continues the narrative of a preceding work." That's how I feel about Westbend Winery & Brewery. The roots are there, and the story continues to intrigue us. So I believe that one can appreciate both the original and the sequel.
Walt & Sonia Breathwit have infused a lot of love, quality, time, and money to create a destination that feels as comfortable as your favorite pair of jeans. It is a family operation, both by blood and family of choice. You know you're in a good place when the staff and management work so tightly together and have such a mutual respect for each other. And that vibe goes beyond the staff to the people who are there as customers. Laid back and yet respectful of others, people are gathered in bunches inside and out. On the weekends, you're likely to find groups with 3 generations of family members enjoying the live music and their lawn games. Even when the cars are parked out to the street and beyond, we've been able to find a spot to relax in peace or join in the party-like atmosphere. Check out their events here.
The investment here wasn't only in their meeting place, but also in their wine and beer production facilities. Their wines will be crafted in their state of the art winery and incorporate the grapes from their estate. The vineyard itself has had a makeover of sorts too. It is in great shape and harvesting has already started this year at the vineyard. Also, across the street from the Winery & Brewery, you'll find the Hauser House. It is a more intimate location for private events like weddings, corporate events, and private parties. If you are driving in on a Saturday, you're likely to see a bunch of cars at the Hauser House for a celebration of some kind.
Westbend Winery & Brewery is located in Lewisville, about 20 minutes from downtown
Winston-Salem. The vineyard stays open later than most, which allows us the time to come in after work and have a beverage. With both North Carolina crafted wines and beer, there are flavors for all your friends.
