Childress Vineyards opened its doors in 2004, and now 13 years later they continue to grow and expand their business. Childress Vineyards was started by racing legend Richard Childress, is known throughout the NASCAR circles for their commitment to excellence. That commitment also comes to the passion for wine, not just cars.
Your vineyard experience starts as you drive into the vineyard in Lexington, North Carolina. The drive up to the huge Italian Winery let's you know
that Childress has been in this business to win. One of the great things about Childress Vineyards is just the name recognition alone that brings legitimacy to the North Carolina Wine Industry. We know that with the resources at hand, they could have chosen to build a vineyard anywhere, but they chose North Carolina. And while some of that may be due to the connection here, the business partners knew that with the right people, time, commitment and resources, they could achieve major success. So as they say, go big or go home.
With at 90 acres of vineyards split between a few properties, the Childress Estate Wines produce around 30 different varieties of wines. There are different 5 different Series of wines produced; Classics, Varietals, Reserves, Signatures, and Desserts and Specialty. We're people who like wine flights, but with 30 wines to flight, that would be a long international, overnight flight, even for us.
Childress employs both age old traditions and new improvements in processing their wines. They are constantly looking for ways to make the best wines available for the public at affordable prices. Take the tour if you get a chance, and you'll see the vast operations that they have on the estate. With 30 wines, ask the server which tasting is going to be right for you. They'll guide you through the process and make sure that you have a great time.
Childress Vineyards has a large shop that has all kinds of things related to wine. You'll find all kinds of items that will delight your favorite wine aficionado. Once you're tasted the wines, have done a little shopping, you should head out to the Bistro for a filling meal. The Bistro is open everyday from 11:00 until 3:00 PM. The pavilion has events too, where you can enjoy a special menu selection at that location. We love to go for the Music in the Vineyards series on Saturdays. Check the events calendar for updated information. Or plan your own event by inviting friends to meet you at the vineyard.
