South Creek Vineyards & Winery - Bordeaux Styled Wines
South Creek Vineyards & Winery isn't as far away as you would think. In fact, you may should plan a trip there this weekend. Less than an hour east of Asheville and just west of Morganton, you can be in this beautiful location enjoying the styles of wine you would see on menus around the world. James and Mary Rowley are there to welcome you to their vineyard and hope that you will taste their wines and stay for a while and enjoy their grounds.
Back in 2010, when faced with a job relocation, they opted to stay in North Carolina and become the new owners of South Creek. The previous owner helped them transition the vineyard and within the year were harvesting grapes on their new farm, with a renovated century old house as their tasting room. They live and work at the vineyard, and are open for visits Wednesday through Saturday from 11:00 - 5:00 PM and Sunday from 1:00 - 5:00 PM.
When you visit, check their schedule for events that may be going on, including music to food events that will make your weekend. And even if there are no planned events, you can make your own with your friends. Call them and you can work out an event that will please you. There are several spaces to work with if you want to have a great get together. It is a great place to meet with your book club, garden club, or best friends meeting space. Now you'll want to go back there not just for the location, but for the wine. There are classic reds like Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc. Also, you'll get that Bordeaux blend in their Maestro. These are dry wine with full body and flavor. And of course for a white, go with their Chardonnay. Enjoy them all with a tasting, and then you can join their wine club and get them year round delivered right to your home.
